Chatfuel vs ManyChat
Both are official Meta partners doing broadly the same job. The decision comes down to pricing shape, which free tier you can actually live on, and whether WhatsApp matters.
The short answer
Start small, pick ManyChat. $14 a month at 250 contacts against Chatfuel's $49, and the deepest Instagram tooling in the category.
Run on the free plan, pick Chatfuel. Chatfuel Light gives you all three channels free. ManyChat's free plan stops at 25 active contacts a month with its own branding on your messages.
WhatsApp matters, pick Chatfuel. It is a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider and includes WhatsApp even on free.
Above about 7,500 contacts, Chatfuel gets cheaper. ManyChat is $69 there and $139 at 25,000, while Chatfuel stays at $49.
The real split
ManyChat prices on Active Contacts, meaning any person you exchange messages with inside a billing month. Five tiers, from 25 contacts free up to 25,000 at $139, then per contact beyond that. You pay in proportion to how much conversation you actually generate.
Chatfuel has two tiers: free, or $49 a month for AI Pro. Simpler to forecast and cheaper at scale, with one caveat worth taking seriously. Chatfuel says usage limits apply to AI Pro but does not publish the figures next to the price, so the flat fee is only flat while you stay inside limits you have to go looking for.
That single difference decides most of these comparisons. Below a few thousand contacts ManyChat is materially cheaper. Above roughly 7,500, Chatfuel is.

What neither one does
This is the part most comparisons leave out, and it matters more than any pricing tier.
Instagram's messaging API opens a window only when a person contacts your account first. Outside that window a business cannot begin a conversation at all. Both Chatfuel and ManyChat are official Meta partners built on that API, so both live inside the same rule.
Every flow either tool runs starts with somebody else moving: a comment, a story reply, an ad click, a DM. They are excellent at what happens next. Neither can create the first move.
So if you are comparing these two because your DMs are busy and you cannot keep up, either will help and this page has already given you the answer. If you are comparing them because your DMs are quiet, neither one fixes that, and picking between them is the wrong question.
Questions
It flips depending on size. ManyChat is far cheaper to start: $14 a month at 250 contacts and $29 at 2,500, against Chatfuel's single $49 paid plan.
Above roughly 7,500 contacts ManyChat costs $69 and at 25,000 it is $139, so Chatfuel's flat $49 becomes the cheaper option, assuming your usage stays inside its published limits.
Chatfuel's, comfortably. Chatfuel Light gives you Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp with a shared inbox and flow builder at no cost.
ManyChat's free plan caps you at 25 active contacts a month, limits you to 2 channels and 4 automations, and puts Manychat branding on your messages. It is a trial in practice rather than a tier you can run on.
No, and this is the thing most people get wrong about both. Instagram's messaging API only permits a business to message someone after that person makes contact first.
Both tools are official Meta partners built on that API, so every flow either one runs begins with a comment, a story reply, an ad click or a DM from the other person. Neither can start a conversation with someone who has never contacted you.
Chatfuel. It is a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider and includes WhatsApp on its free plan. ManyChat supports WhatsApp too, but its channel allowance is tier-gated, so you may need a higher plan to run WhatsApp alongside Instagram and Messenger.
ManyChat, on balance. It is creator-led, its Instagram tooling is the most mature in the category, and the pricing ladder lets a small account start at $14 rather than jumping to $49.
Chatfuel's pricing page says usage limits apply to AI Pro but does not publish the numbers alongside the price, pointing instead to a separate plan limits page. Check those before committing if your volume is high, because the flat $49 is only an advantage while you stay inside them.
ManyChat publishes its contact allowances directly on the pricing page, which makes forecasting easier.
Social Prospector is the outbound half: it finds prospects on Instagram or Facebook, follows them, and sends the first message, then tracks every reply in a pipeline. It is a desktop app, not a Meta API integration, which is precisely how it reaches people who have never contacted you.
Plenty of people run one of these alongside it. Outbound starts the conversations, Chatfuel or ManyChat catches the ones who come to you.
